I am a military wife, and my husband has spent a large part of our marriage serving away from home. Through my own experiences of military life, I have built a community company that brings people together through outdoor experiences, wellbeing and adventure. Over the years, I have worked hard to connect people, support my community and create opportunities for others to experience the outdoors, particularly those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so.
I have recently been offered a last-minute place on a canoe challenge in Canada on 3rd October. The place has become available because another participant has had to withdraw, and I would absolutely love the opportunity to take it.
The challenge costs £900, plus flights, and I am now working to a very tight deadline as I need to make the payment shortly to secure my place. I am therefore applying for funding towards the cost of the challenge and travel.
Although so much of my life has been about supporting others and building my community, I would really value the opportunity to do something for myself. This would be an incredible personal challenge, allowing me to step outside my comfort zone, develop my own skills and experience another wilderness environment — something that I could also bring back into the work I do with my community.
I have spent years giving my time and energy to others, and this opportunity feels like a chance to invest in myself while continuing to grow the skills, confidence and experience that I can share with others.
Any support towards making this opportunity possible would mean an enormous amount to me.
